The decayed hull of an ancient ship was unearthed at the World Trade Center construction site in New York City on Tuesday. Archeologists say the 32-foot long craft provides us with a glimpse into the history of Manhattan. Parts of lower Manhattan, including where the twin towers were later erected, were built over the Hudson River. The ship may date back at least 200 years when part of the river was filled in with trash, debris and wooden beams in order to expand the ever-growing city of Manhattan. Workers made the discovery as they excavated an area that had not been dug out for the original World Trade Center. Downtown office and construction workers were amazed at the find |
